There are stress, pain and many other unpleasant elements in reality, thus sometimes people want to escape from reality. Many people have fantasy because they create their own satisfying world by doing so. I created the fitted dress to represent the reality full of pressure, and the freely coming out elements to represent fantastical.

La Fantaisie: Final Garment
Finished altering the pattern of my dress by elongating the sleeves, adding the pointy tip to sleeves, making the neck higher and the dress longer and tighter. Then I was starting to figure out what fabric manipulation I wanted to make. I connected it to the mini assignment I did, which has circular figure.

La Fantaisie: Final Garment-Sketch
For the final garment, Im going to create a long dress, that is similar to the last one, with a head cover to create more of a mysterious feeling. This is just a simple sketch of the basic structure, and Im gonna do more experience on fabric manipulation and add it onto my garment. Also, Part of my garment will be using see-through fabric.

La Fantaisie: The First Garment
For this garment, I elongated the length of the neck and the length of the dress, shorten the length of the sleeves and added more structure to the shoulder, and added many octopus shape like circles over the skirt part. I used fabric manipulation in an exaggerate way that the fabric manipulation actually changed the form of the dress from simple to complex. For my next final garment, I would keep exploring fabric manipulation.
La Fantaisie: Sketches
My idea of the design is fantastical. When I think about the word "fantastical", I see some weird structure and complex looking designs in my head. They look unusual, yet still graceful.
Richard Martin's article Fashion And Surrealism gave me inspiration, because I got the idea that I want to design something more conceptual.

La Fantaisie
La
Fantaisie
I’m studying on the word
“fantastical” about why fantastical elements in different ranges are becoming
more popular, why people want to have a fantastical character on themselves,
and how fashion helps to approach it.
For
this pattern design assignment, I first created an asymmetrical motif that was
related to my theme, fantastical. It is a squiggly symbol that is
drawn by hand without me thinking about the design. I thought of the word
“Fantastical”, put my pencil on my sketchbook, and that was what came out. For
this particular pattern, I rotated the original motif to a
different angle, created a reflected version of it and put them two together
with a part overlapping. Then I made three copies and rotated them into
different angles and put them all together like a blooming flower. I chose a
cloudy dark blue for the background and pastel yellow to pop out the pattern. I
also gave a tan to the outline of the pattern to show the details of the
squiggly lines. Each “flower” is symmetrical and is lined up with the space
that other “flowers” create to make another simpler flower.
While doing research on my theme,
fantastical, the image of what fantasy look like slowly became more distinct.
As I’m a person who relates to vision, words are always transformed into images
through my mind. Though I was reading words for most of the time, the image
of “fantastical” was pieced together
like a puzzle. Dreamy, wispy, stacked-up of squiggly lines and pieces, surreal,
etc. Elements from images I found during the research also helped me fulfill
the image of “fantastical”, thus, when I was designing the pattern, I had a
clearer image of what it’s supposed to look like, what kind of shape and color
should it have that would create a feeling of fantasy.

This Pattern relates to my theme "Fantastical"(I changed the word for my theme) because the colors and the shapes of the plants are very abstract.
The textile on this gown relates to my theme because it has a mystical feeling like fantasy.
This textile is related to my theme because it is like fantasy that it can be very overwhelmingly esthetic that people can only look at it from a distance.
